Statement of Faith and Purpose

St. Bede’s Anglican Church in Tucson, Arizona is a traditional Anglican Church. We believe Jesus Christ is the head of the church and the center of parish life and worship. Therefore, we concur with St. Paul concerning Jesus preeminent status; “that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth and that every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father”. Philippians 2:10-11 KJV

We hold these essential elements of orthodox Anglicanism as definitive, sufficient, and normative for our faith, worship, and parish life:

  1. The Apostle’s Creed and The Nicene Creed
  2. The Apostolic succession of Bishops and the historic all male priesthood
  3. The 1928 Book of Common Prayer as our book of worship – Click here for short video on benefit of common prayer
  4. 39 Articles of Religion
  5. Biblical standards of morality as taught by our Lord and His Apostles down through the ages

We also acknowledge that each one of us is in the process of “becoming” all that God would have us become. None of us are or ever will be “finished products” short of our entrance into His eternal glory after we die. We all have obstacles, past experiences, and road blocks to overcome that stand in our way with our walk with Christ. As such, we are here to encourage each other and rejoice together on our shared spiritual journey. We are each called upon to cooperate daily with the work of the Holy Spirit which is God’s gift to us to deepen our faith and our experience of His love. The Holy Spirit was sent to lead us into all truth, to convict us of our sins, and to encourage us to cooperate more every day with God’s desire and attempt to make us into the “new creation” all Christians desire. We travel this difficult road of sanctification together at St. Bede’s, and we pray by His grace that we will each uncover and discover for ourselves “the pearl of great price”, and experience His love more fully every day.

We welcome you in the sacred name of Jesus Christ and give thanks for your interest in our church and hope to be blessed to see you in the days ahead. May God guide your path in the days and years ahead as you seek to discern His will for your life. If that includes St. Bede’s, we will be very blessed by your presence.
